Okay, usually I am not moved by anything that has to do with Government, but when I heard about COICA I had to post this.

To my understanding, Basically the government will have two blacklists. Read the link or if you know what it is sign the petition to try to prevent this from being passed. Chances are, it will be passed and the internet will cease to be fun. Not to mention websites with anything that is up without the persons consent will be die. Say good bye too all the streaming websites and 4chan.
I don't want to go into the details because I do not fully understand it yet and chances are that this will be passed. I just wish they would see that this is exactly what China and Iran do with their internet. HURRAY FOR OPPRESSION.

ReplyDeleteI don't think this bill will be the one that cripples the internet, but honestly, it's gonna happen. Really, we've had a 'free' internet for a long time now. I remember using the 'net in 1994, and from what I remember, shit was pretty open and free back then. It still is just as open and free, but the only difference is now, we have faster download and upload speeds. Quicker access to pirated/copyrighted materials, whether they're streamed or just flat-out downloaded. The problem, though, is that a free 'net will only exist for so long. Think of literally any industry in the US that's unregulated. If you can tell me one, then I'll eat my own hat. The internet can't be unregulated forever. Basically, everyone will reject every compromise because they want to keep the free 'net they know and love...when do we actually say, "Yeah, THAT sounds reasonable. Regulate it like THAT."?
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I'm not looking forward to that day at all. I love the internet being free. I just think it's naive to think it'll stay like that forever.
