They Live

They Live is a 1988 film about a unnamed man (everyone calls him Nada) who finds a pair of sunglasses. Upon putting on said sunglasses, he notices that certain people are actually aliens that are brain washing the people to obey them! So what does Nada do? He does what any american would do. Goes on a alien killing rampage. The aliens in this remind me of the Ghouls from the Fallout Series. This could possibly be what they are based off of.

Everything about this film is pretty much full of fail. But when you come to terms with that you realize that it is just a "lol" movie from the 80s.


Nada (who is played by Rowdy Roddy Piper) is your typical long haired hero without a cause that we came to know and love during the 80s. But not all these movies had Rowdy Roddy Piper with a shotgun in them now did they? Moving on, as mentioned before he finds a pair of sunglasses that show him the "true" faces of some people. For no reason he decides it will be a good idea to call someone out for it drawing attention to himself causing the Alien police to come for him. Of course he beats the snot out of the aliens and gets their Shotgun and goes on a killing rampage. The most memorable moment of the entire film is this gem:

Really many things in this movie happen without reason. But who needs reason when you are kicking this much ass right? One of those things is the 5 minute fight scene that happens because someone Nada works with will not put on the sunglasses. Here is the fight scene.


Two Guys beating the living shit out of each other over a pair of sunglasses...if this isn't enough to make you watch this, I don't know what will be.

On top of all the over the top ridiculous action, is the terrible acting and special effects that take place in this movie. For '88, this movie really didn't take the time to do the special effects right. They are subpar at best with the crummy explosions, pyrotechnics, and muzzle flares. I could show another video of this but I think you get the point.

Sure this movie is really crummy and has poor acting plus there are more holes in the plot than there are beautiful girls who are willing to date me (so far we got one)...but you will not watch this movie for that...oh no. You will watch this movie because it really is just a fun movie. I will say this, unless you LOVE this movie, don't buy it. Stream it or Netflix it. If you don't, you will wish you could get your money back.

I give this movie a 5.6 out of 10

Also, right before the movie ends you get to see boobs.

PON PON PATAPON

So one system gets neglected often when doing video game reviews (or just playing them) that system is PSP. Sure the PSP is one of the worst Handhelds since the Gamegear, but it has some nice gems on it. One I particularly enjoyed was a strange game called Patapon. WTF is a Patapon you may ask. Patapon are these little Tribal Eyeball creatures that you see on the front of the case.


PATAPON
Now Patapon is a strategy game with a twist. As soon as you turn on the game you basically sign your name onto a piece of paper stating that you are now the god of the Patapon and that you will lead them to victory. The Major difference with this strategy game compared to others is that you control all your units...wait for it...WITH DRUMS. Each button on the PSP face is set to a different drum. You have  Pata, Pon, Don, and Chaka drums. With these drums you either tell your Patapon to advance, attack, defend, retreat, or you can use one of your miracles which initiates a rhythm mini game.
You will often find that Patapon are up against terrible odds...

Heres the other catch, when you play the drum beats. They have to be done to the Rhythm of the drum playing in the background which is always in 1/4 beat. So 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4. The Rhythms are really hypnotic and I actually found myself chanting them before for no reason. Get used to hearing PATA-PATA-PATA-PON which is the command to make your Patapon move. Oh and PON-PON-PATA-PON which is the attack drums. If you manage to do these perfectly with the beat, your Patapon will enter something called fever mode. In fever mode all the Patapon get SUPER EPIC and usually do more damage and/or get more range on attack, it really just varies by Patapon type.

The dragons will be the least of your worries...
Somehow this game has managed to bring you a Rhythm based game as well as strategy. Now here is where the game gets cool. You make all your troops from random items and equipment you acquire in battle. Mind you there are set formulas for each on like say for instance, One metal plus one wood plus some points. So you would use your best metal, the best wood and what ever number of points the Patapon cost to make them. The rarer the stuff the better the Patapon. This is where the game really stands out and makes you want to "hunt" to get better equipment and items. By hunting I mean doing a mission that requires you to kill a certain type of enemy.

So what did I think of the game? I thought this game was perfect. On the PSP it was super portable, it has great sound (even better if you plug in your headphones) and there are plenty of rhythm based distractions in the game to keep you busy while you are not leading the Patapon to the other end of the world. Now if I wouldn't have played the second one I would have said this was the best. But the second adds a lot to the game.

Graphics
There are several different unit types,
So make sure you plan accordingly.
The Graphics in this game are beautiful. Simplistic and Beautiful. In my many years of playing video games...which has been 18 years, I have never seen a game quite like this one. Just when you think the game is lacking in color you will be hit with Crazy Backgrounds, Rain Effects, Wind Effects (this actually plays a huge roll in the game SO PAY ATTENTION.

Gameplay
The gameplay in it can get pretty stale. Unless you like Mindlessly banging on drums. Personally I loved it because you had to know exactly what you were doing at times to keep your Patapon alive. You had to know exactly when to strike and when to pull back. If you Charged in there willy nilly like you could survive...but you would lose A LOT of Patapon. The Equipment feature in the game is nice too because you get to put different equipment on different Patapon thus giving you the ability to pick favorites.


Sound
This is where the game Really Shines. When you enter a level all you hear is one drum. As you advance or enter fever mode the music gets more intense. Rather it be a simple tribal drum beat and the Patapon Chanting to some Techno with the Patapon going crazy and yelling things in their Patapon Language. You will really feel like some sort of drumming god in this one.

Overall
Patapon can be a lot of fun. There is a slight learning curve though. I know I sat down and I played this game until I could not play it anymore (aka I finished the story line and did everything I wanted to do in the hunts) and I am lucky I did because your data transfers over in Patapon 2 and I am sure if you complete Patapon 2 it will do the same in 3. All and all though I give this game an 8.7 out of 10

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars


Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars or as I am going to refer to it for the rest of the review, Mario RPG, is an interesting take on the RPG genre. First of all the game is a Mario game. So obviously it is set in the Mario world. Which is where we will begin this review.

The Land
The world in this game is amazingly well thought out and executed perfectly. You have never been thrown into the world of Mario like this. This is most comparable to the world of Super Mario World. With that being said, I give you this.

It may look large here but the game really isn't that long, thus making it an average map. Compare the map above to the one on the left. You will see some minor similarities and a lot of differences. This is because Mario RPG takes place 6 years after the events of Super Mario World and you can see there have been some major shifts. Upon Bowser's defeat, his castle was moved from inside the cave to the top of the cave. Bowser made his minions do this because he was really pissed that Mario got the princess again. But to move the castle they had to dig it out. Which led to a huge cave-in that caused all of Mario World to shift.

and if you believed anything I said about the history of Mario World, then you are ultra gullible. 

You WILL, however, notice a few places in Mario RPG that will give you pure nostalgia (if you are a huge Mario fan).

The Story and Characters
The story is a bit cheesy in the game. But that is what makes the game so fun. All the dialog is full of funnies and pot shots from everything to Mario's stature to Bowser's Shell. Obviously, Nintendo and Sqauresoft (now the ever popular Square-Enix) had to make it kid friendly because it is a Mario game. Let's face it, the most violent game he will ever be in is Super Smash Bros. and he is shadowed out by all the other characters in that.

Anyhoo, this game revolves around Mario and company collecting Stars to save the world from udder destruction from giant living weapons invading Mario's world. Which is pretty basic for an RPG, so it doesn't get many points there and it isn't going to "move" anyone or touch their hearts. BUT the game is presented in such a fun and accessible way that it is hard not to love. Unfortunately, the game only has one ending and no areas where if you choose a different option, will change very much in the game aside from getting certain items. There are a TON of secrets and side quests though so that makes up for it.

Mallow is a cute party member.
The characters are all awesome too. One thing I am glad they kept in the story line is the fact Mario doesn't talk. EVER. To be honest, I don't think many of Miyamoto's main characters talk...I wonder why? Carrying on, all the other characters play backup rolls properly and everyone usually tells you what Mario is thinking or you get to choose what Mario is going to "say" 

Gameplay
This game plays like a traditional RPG with twitch elements. What I mean by that is say you are in battle and you want to use and attack with Mario. When Mario's turn rolls around, you choose who you want to attack. Then you go in for the attack. BUT right before your attack hits, you hit the same button you have set up to the "attack" command and it will do double damage. If you do it with an item you, you get to keep the item. While getting attacked, it reduces damage. Works for Magic too. Neat huh?

Did I mention this is an amazing intro RPG for any one who is looking to get into the RPG market?

Sound
Do you like Mario Music and sounds?
If the answer is yes, the you will like this area. Otherwise you may get a bit annoyed.

Overall
Despite this being a game geared towards children, it is still a hell of a lot of fun. Lots of fun mini games, sidequest, casino games, etc. etc.

There really isn't too much reason to replay this game, however. Beside for nostalgia's sake. I managed to play through the entire game without getting a game over too. This was a huge feat for me because I have never really done that before during a first play through.

All and all though everything in this game is about as stiff as ones dong was when he discovered porn (That is rock hard or jizzed pants if you ladies were wondering. Yes, this game may be good enough to make you Orgasm.)

I give it an 8.8 out of 10

Special Edition: TURBO REVIEW!!!

So today I am introducing a new addition to my blog. Only because I am working on a new side project for my blog which may take about 3 days to a week to finish. So, to let everyone know I care, I will be posting Mini reviews for things that I think deserve a plug. I mean they probably can't even be considered reviews, more so just quick opinions...but I like turbo reviews better. So without further ado, Here is Regh's Turbo review!

Breaking Bad
To put it simply this show is FUCKING AMAZING. I started watching it last night and I am hooked. I am extremely impressed by everything in this show. The main Actors are Superb. The Shots are well composed. Every scene catches the mood perfectly and they always leave you craving more. It has action, drama, romance, comedy, and drugs. Lots and Lots of drugs. 

Seriously, if you haven't watched this show do yourself a favor by finding a stream, on-demanding it, buy all of  it, download all of it (legally, it is worth it), SOMETHING, ANYTHING. JUST WATCH THIS SHOW. 9.8 out of 10!

P.S. Did I mention Bryan Cranston (or Walt) has won 3 emmys for this role alone? No? Well now I did. All for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. For the past three years...straight.

I have a crazy idea...

I have something a bit bigger in mind for my next review. So I probably will not post for a day or two. I promise, if you enjoy my reviews you will like it. It is going to blend more with my schooling so I can master my art. Because let's face it. Even Luke Skywalker needed training. Goku as well. If you have no clue what I am talking about you will in a few days.

If the reception is good for my said project I will continue that way. If it flops I will turn to my normal methods.

An Epic Duo
Time for a strange review. FIX YOUR FACE is a collaborative mixtape made by Travis Barker (known for his drumming in the American group Blink 182) and the (late but) great DJ AM (Adam Goldstein). In this project, Travis Barker plays drums while DJ AM mixes tracks. That situation is a big "whut?" But it works out awesomely. It was sweet enough for them to make a second volume. Coachella or FIX YOUR FACE VOL.2. Moving on now...

On both Fix your face vol.1 and 2, DJ AM mixes together so many different artists, it is hard to keep track of them all. So I am now going to sit here and list off as many bands as I can before I finish my post.

The Beastie Boys, Guns and Roses, Jay-Z, Easy E, Biggie Smalls, The Zombies, The Beatles, Lil Wayne, Damien Marley, Foo Fighters, and The Who just to name a few. I would tell you the entire list but that would ruin the magic. If you have read my previous posts, then you know that I hate ruining a good surprise.

In his past life, Travis was a drumming god.
All the while Travis Barker is wailing on drums.  If you know who Travis Barker is, you know that he can play a mean drum kit. If you don't know who he is, grab a blunt object and immediately smash yourself in the face...or go to youtube and look him up. You will be impressed with his skills as a drummer and his body full of tattoos.

One thing I must mention about these mixtapes. Travis' drumming bring new life to amazing songs. One that really shines out to me is Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes.


Overview of greatness
So what exactly does it sound like? A bunch of hit songs mixed together that make you feel awesome and nostalgic at times. With these mixtapes in your arsenal, you will be able to DJ for an entire party. Well at least until you run out of tracks...or the track repeats (there are a few). Then people will just think you are lame and cant come up with anything original. Then they will figure out you are not DJing at all and will probably want to kick you in the teeth and get their money back. So don't try that. Instead, tell them who it is. They will appreciate the honesty and love the CDs so much they will have to go out and buy them (not even download) thus bringing money back to the economy! PLAY THIS AT YOUR PARTY!

If you don't do that at least give it one listen to. But, if you are like me, you will respect this piece of work for what it is, two insanely talented guys doing what they enjoy most...

Red Dead Redemption: Western GTA done right

a note to the readers: I have been extremely burnt out the last few days and I apologize. I will try to make reviews better than this one in the future and I will try to edit this one when I find time.

I need to start this review by saying that I still have not played the first game. So my opinion is not swayed by that.

Red Dead Redemption is a sandbox Western Game that is a lot like Grand Theft Auto with a Change in Scenery, skin lift of every character, weapons that are more accessible and made a spaghetti western map. Which is okay because Rockstar does this Right.

Gameplay
The graphics are so beautiful in this game.
In Red Dead Redemption, you play as John Marston a former gang member who's family was taken by government until he can bring one of his old cohorts. It plays much like Grand Theft Auto in the sense all the controls are essentially the same and you get to shoot at a lot of things. This is fun. Lots of fun. One thing that makes this game different from GTA is all of the extras it has. Including Dead Eye, which is when you hit the R1 or Right Bumper and the screen turns all sepia tone and time slows down and you are able to take pot shots. There are also random encounters in the wild west such as horses getting stolen, whores being attacked, and people trying to set you up just to name a few.

There is also hunting missions and random achievements that actually make you get things such as Guns, Horses, and Clothing. There is still the ability to steal horses and go on shooting rampages.

Story
Ba-BOOM
I would rather not talk about the story too much, but it is a very good one. Rockstar really spent some time on this game. The story is well thought out and full of twists and turns.

Sound
This game has mastered all the sound effects and music. The Music is really inspired by all the old action packed spaghetti western movies. The music randomly starts playing when ever you are met with a confrontation or any random events.

Overall
I can't really get into how awesome this game is because I don't want to give it away. I mean I would normally go into the characters but I would rather not say anything about the story or characters because I want it to be a big surprise to anyone that plays. Just know, I do give this game a 9.5 out of 10 just because of the sheer awesomeness of it. I haven't even completed it yet...sooo...I am going to go do so Now!

Final Fantasy Tactics: he other side of the Fantasy


Final Fantasy Tactics

The Lion War, a remade version
of the game that actually
took a large step from
the Original game. Which is good.
This game is one of my favorite games ever. I know I know. I said that about Batman but this one is pretty schway, as well. Final Fantasy Tactics is a Playstation Title that was then remade on the psp (and soon to be iphone) game. Personally, I really enjoyed the PSP remake because it had more to do and the cleaned up the improper grammar of the first one and made it into Old English. So "Ye"s and "Sire"s stuff like straight from a Shakespearean play in addition to cut scenes done in what appears to be beautiful Water Color.

I haven't really mentioned this yet, but this is a turn based Strategy game.

Story


Basically this story is full of so many twists and turns, you will thinking you are watching an M Night Shyamalan movie. Well besides that fact it is good and presented in a nice, occasionally cinematic way. Unlike a M. Night Shyamalan movie. As said before, the cutscenes are done in beautiful hand drawn art and fully animated, but only in the PSP (and assuming the iphone) version(s). So is it will be worth it to get one of these two versions. If you are playing the playstation version fret not, they still act out the all the scenes with in game graphics. No Voice actors or old english though. Sorry. They also fix a number of translation problems the Original game had. Which is huge because it helps the story flow better.

Gameplay


If you are not into turn based gameplay do not play this. If you don't know if you rather or not you like turn based combat, but like managing parties and upgrading your units play this. If you LOVE the Final Fantasy Universe and enjoy all of the previous things I said, Why the hell haven't you played this yet and what are you waiting for?

In this game, you spend a lot of time in the menu window leveling up your parties (or the characters you use the most) skills. You do this for the obvious reason of making your characters stronger and have better skills. after you master a skill by putting points into it, you may use said skill. You earn points by winning battles. There are also several different jobs to choose from which makes this game super interesting just due to the sheer number of different parties you can have. There is also different stats to look at each character before choosing a job for them. Some of these stats are rather they are Male or Female (females are generally better at magic where as males are better melee attackers and meat shields)

Now here comes a kicker, when in battle, if a character dies, you have 3 turns to revive them otherwise that character dies. This means bye bye for said character and their equipment. This can really suck because you will lose a character or two (maybe more) your first play through or until you master the game mechanics. I mean you can go back to the last save point if you would like but where's the fun in that?

In battle it is like any other turn based role playing strategy, move character certain amount of squares they can move, approach enemy, if you are on the side or behind the enemy you have a better chance of hitting, etc etc.

Another cool thing is this game are all the secrets. When you first start the game you only have two jobs to start with. As you level up these classes they unlock other classes. Which in turn, different combinations of job levels will give you even better jobs. On top of a great class system there is also some hidden characters (like Cloud from FFVII for instance) and a ton of items to boot.

The boss battles are simply epic and the only time I really lost characters. When you have a boss down to it's last 5,000 health and it was over 20,000 you tend to know when to cut your losses and keep fighting without them. Mind you that you could have someone just share a phoenix down and revive or use one of the many other ways to revive but...never mind, you will understand if you play!

Overall
The cutscenes are so nice in the Remake.
This is a turn based strategy game. If you have not picked up on this fact yet, you are stupid and I cannot help you. With that being said, it is a game that is a lot of fun despite not having a lot of graphics behind it. If you can, get the Lion War Version of this game because it is like 20x better due to the fixes and cutscenes. The gameplay is rather solid and is TURN-BASED, so some battles do tend to drag on sometimes so hopefully you have some time to sit down and play this amazing game.

If you enjoy Turn Based Games then I give this a 9.2 out of 10


If you HATE Turn Based Strategy games, you will not like this game and it will be more of a 0-5.9 out of 10

Mutha' Flubbin' Batman: Arkham Asylum. Nuff Said. Ya huuuur?

Batman Arkham Asylum

Basically the BEST BATMAN GAME EVER. This one is a must play. You take on the roll of the caped crusader in this one (duh) as all hell breaks loose in Arkham Asylum. Yes that means ALL of the baddies are here. I am talking Top ranking Bad Guys. I don't want to give away too much. Lets Break this game down for what it really is!

Characters


Who can Resist this smile?
ALL THE CHARACTERS IN THIS GAME ARE SO BAD ASS. They stay true to their comic book and cartoon selves. This, in my opinion, is the best part of the game. There are so many characters in the batman universe and this game finds a way to pack them all into one game. Joker (voiced by Mark Hamill) is perfectly portrayed in this game. He is as twisted and maniacal as the Joker should be. Now I am talking Dark Knight-esque Joker. Killing Joke Joker. He, of course, is the mastermind behind everything in this game. Why? Well I can't tell you because that would ruin the whole game, but I can tell you is this. He is the damn Joker. Who else would have a master Plan to lock everyone in Arkham Asylum in Arkham and release all the prisoners? Besides in the Batman comics when Bane released all the prisoners into  Gotham.

The Scarecrow has always been one of the
sweetest looking Batman Villains EVER.
Another character I thought they portrayed the right way in this game was *DUN DUN DUUNNNN* The Scarecrow. Sure it is pretty cheesy when you fight a giant version of him, but when he hits you with that Fear Toxin shit of his, just hope you are not playing the game at night. I was, this is one of the only games that actually made me jump because of a stupid cheap scare. Next being Resident Evil 2 and then Silent Hill (maybe I should review those next?)

Oh, did I mention the Killer Croc?

Story

This is a very strong point of this game. It is a really in-depth and lengthy. If you are looking for Batman this is here. For Batman fanboy (or girl) this will be extremely fulfilling  If you are not a batman fan, you may find the story to be cheesy. But that doesn't mean it is not hella epic. That is right. I said hella.

Edit: I also like how the damage Batman takes during the storyline is reflected all throughout the game. Such as cuts on costume and tattered cape.

Environment
If you can see it here, you can get there.

The levels in this game are vast and have a dark, gritty feel to them. Let's face it, you are trapped in an insane asylum with nothing but cops and nut jobs. But just look at this. Look at the vast amount of detail in this game. No wonder it is the MOST taxing game on 360.

Rather you are walking down a dark cell block or strolling through the security station or even a library filled with thugs, this game delivers the Batman atmosphere 100%

Gameplay
This game would be a perfect 10 if the gameplay wasn't repetitive. Now I enjoyed this game so much that I say it is one of my top ten games. But since I am reviewing this I have to be fair.
This is in game graphics. You will do this a lot.
As well as crawl through vents.

Repetition in shows up during things like melee combat, Countering enemies, sneaking and investigating. When doing theses things they all feel the same as they did your first encounter with them. For me this was perfect because the game didn't lose me at all. But for other gamers, this may seem daunting because this is an 8 to 10 hour game. Maybe more if you play all the challenges and go through all of The Riddler's Puzzles.


Oh yeah, All the Gadgets are amazing. It just wouldn't be a Batman game without the utility belt of Goodies. Let me tell you, there are plenty here. You will feel like you did in Metal Gear Solid or Legend of Zelda whenever you found a new piece of equipment each time you get a cool Bat device in this game

Overall
This game is flipping amazing. After awhile things do feel slightly stale but it does not ruin the Batman Experience. If you want to feel as bad ass as Batman, then play this game. If you just want an awesome epic adventure (that just so happens to have batman as the main character) then play this game.  If you don't play it for that, at least play it to experience the Depth that the creators put into this game. It is well worth it for just that. The characters are superb, the sounds are intense (didn't mention it in the full review, but the sound effects are spot on and the music is brooding and very fitting), the story is dark, the mechanics are rock solid. 

It is like Legend of Zelda mechanics nailed a good Batman Comic and their baby came out the best damn super hero game ever.

That is right I said it. It is the best super hero game ever, hands down. Can't really be super hero I guess seeing how Bruce Wayne did not have any super powers...he did have super cunning though...

I give it a 9.8 out of 10

TV Review: Eastbound & Down


Eastbound and Down is a show on HBO that is about a Professional Baseball player and his fall from fame and how he copes with it plus all the shenanigans he gets into. I must warn you however, it is extremely vulgar so if you are faint of heart you shouldn't watch this. There is some nudity, explicit language, and sexual content. All on top of drug use and Alcohol use. Now this sound like a recipe for something good. The comedy in this show does not come from over the top situations, no. It comes from the characters


Take Kenny Powers for instance, the shows main character. He is a Vulgar ex-major leaguer trying to get himself back on top all the while coping with being down on the bottom. He is played by the insanely hilarious Danny McBride, who has been in movies such as Pineapple Express, Hot Rod and Tropic Thunder. I really cannot talk to much about this character without giving away spoilers so I will avoid doing so. But with that being said, his character is definitely my favorite. He just has an attitude of a winner. He is a champion. and a winner. Has he paid for sex before? Yes he has, and it was great. His words, not mine.

Dear Nintendo,

Many years you have been randomly rebooting series such as Donkey Kong Country. Donkey Kong is okay but how many Reboots has Kirby had? No I am not saying kirby doesn't deserve it But I feel there is a game that deserves it more.



Battletoads

Let's face it a Battletoads Reboot would be sick. It was a grittier version of Ninja Turtles. The action in the game was sweet too. It was extremely Cartoony. Who can forget punching Rat people in the face and then Hammering them into the ground with a double fist blast? Then afterward kicking them off screen. Or the ability to break an enemy, pick up one of their pieces and beat the snot out of anything that moves. The Boss Fights those were Tough. Gamers need to be put back into their place because everyone is getting too good at games.

What about all the ridiculous ways of Transportation? Some sort of Wheel thing, Jet skis, and Hovercrafts. Then there was also the part where you had to hand from a wire and clear waves of enemies as you descended down into the next level. You could turn yourself into a freaking wreaking ball for christsakes.

The Battletoads kicked so much ass. It was a hard game and I don't remember beating it as a kid. It wasn't until I discovered the joy of Emulators that I downloaded it and played it again (due to not owning my NES anymore) and I loved every second of it.

So please nintendo, hear my plea! Bring Battletoads back?
